WEEE Collections

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) was introduced into UK law in January 2007 by the Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment Regulations 2006.

The WEEE Directive aims to improve the environmental performance of businesses that manufacture, supply, use, recycle and recover electrical and electronic equipment. The WEEE Directive also aims to reduce the amount of electrical and electronic equipment being produced and to encourage everyone to reuse, recycle and recover it.

The WEEE Directive covers all electrical and electronic equipment used by consumers and electrical and electronic equipment intended for professional use.

The Directive sorts EEE into 10 categories:

1. Large household appliances
2. Small household appliances
3. IT and telecommunications equipment
4. Consumer equipment
5. Lighting equipment
6. Electrical and electronic tools
7. Toys, leisure and sports equipment
8. Medical devices
9. Monitoring and control instruments
10. Automatic dispensers
