RECYCO has embraced AI and robotics to revolutionize its recycling processes. Two robotic units, powered by artificial intelligence, are now operational, using vacuum-equipped sorting cups to enhance material separation. The system includes a single AMP Cortex unit and a tandem unit, both used on waste paper lines to improve pick rates and bale purity. AMP’s deep learning technology uses computer vision to guide high-speed robotics, identifying and sorting recyclables based on color, size, shape, and opacity, while storing data on each item. These robots sort 60-80 items per minute—double the speed of a human—with tandem units reaching up to 150 picks per minute. “The robots have quickly doubled our pick rates while improving the purity of our bales, maximizing value for our end-market buyers,” says Michael Cunningham of RECYCO.
